I offer supervision in Leeds, York, Thirsk and the surrounding areas to a variety of professionals including trainee counselors, qualified counsellors, health professionals and supervisors.
As an experienced supervisor I aim to provide a safe, supportive, confidential and reflective environment where you can explore the dynamics of your therapeutic work with clients. I consider counseling supervision to be an opportunity for us to work together to explore and support your practice, to offer you professional supportive feedback, validation and insight.
In addition to your practice, through trust and openness we can work together to find the best way forward to support your own well-being, in accordance with BACPs ethical framework for best practice.
Supervision aims to facilitate your development and practice by increasing awareness, knowledge and expertise. I draw primarily from the process model of Hawkin and Schohet (1989) however the process of supervision is essentially integrative relational. The model has seven modes that facilitates, develops and informs the process of supervision:
- Reflection on the content of therapy sessions between you and client.
- Exploration of the strategies and interventions used by you.
- Exploration of the therapy dynamics and therapeutic relationships.
- Focus on your counter-transference.
- Focus on our supervisory process as a parallel to the therapy process.
- Focus on my supervisor's counter-transference.
- Focus on the wider context such as the organisation you are working in.
Why is counselling supervision needed?
Counselling supervision is a professional requirement for counsellors, it is required to protect clients and provide a space for counsellors to reflect on practice adding value to their clients.
I offer face to face supervision and telephone supervision to supervisees at 1.5 hours per month, this is to ensure that the client is protected and the supervisee can benefit from engaging in a reflective space in which they can share their feelings, thoughts, behaviour and approach to the client material and their own practice.
Apart from discussing the work the supervisee is undertaking I am able to offer a variety of techniques to help the supervisee reflect upon their work and develop within their own practice.
I also offer group supervision at 2 hours per month for organisations, schools, and various settings in which support is offered to others. I can provide reduced rates for trainees. If you are interested in supervision please feel free to contact me and I will arrange an initial meeting with you to discuss your requirements and the models and theories you are interested in and work within.
