Bringing it together - Group Support
What is it?
It is a group for anyone who has been bereaved or who has experienced a loss during the pandemic.
The group helps you to manage your grief following a life changing loss during COIVD 19.
If you are considering joining the group, then you most likely are grieving a loss, it is likely that a person close to you has died. However, it may be that you have experienced difficult life losses during Covid 19, such as the loss of a job, loss of health, of a friendship or an intimate relationship, or you’re struggling with how life was for you and how life is now.
The group offers you support and an opportunity to make sense of your individual process. It helps you to understand what to expect in the coming weeks, months, and years as it brings together the experience of other group members. Sharing together brings together opportunities to share your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment without any judgement. Looking at the grief process draws upon research and helpful methods that can support your experience each hour of each day.
Your grief will always be unique to you and your journey is individual, research suggests that grieving alongside someone helps us to promote healthy grief, but unfortunately not everyone has someone to grieve alongside, and the feeling of loneliness can be intense, sad, and extremely difficult.
For some people it is hard to talk about grief, death and dying and friends and family members may struggle to find the words to support you. This group has been created so that nobody feels that they are alone. People can join the group and make new friends as they share together common feelings.
The group is facilitated by Jacqui Bird, who has been supporting grieving people for the past twenty 23 years, through working in groups on a one-to-one basis with families, organisations, and supervising bereavement counsellors. Supporting you in this group brings together her years of experience and understanding to help you learn to build your life around the pain of grief,
Although grief may not have a destination point, we can all be reassured that we can hold the hope that we can build our lives one step at a time and hold on to the treasured memories that living those experiences has given us.
The group meets for 8 x 80 minute sessions on a Friday afternoon.
Online groups and face to face groups are delivered throughout the year at various times. There is a maximum of eight people in a group. There is no charge for attending the group but donations to St Gemma's Hospice are welcome through the just giving page that can be found on the FAQ section of this website.
Please note the group is different to a counselling session as it is a special time set a side for you gain support from others who have gone through a similar experience.
